Lawrence police arrest suspect on charges of auto burglary, burglary and aggravated assault

Lawrence police arrested a 24-year-old Lawrence man on charges of an auto burglary, burglary and aggravated assault, which occurred shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday. They are also investigating three other residential and auto burglaries that occurred Wednesday morning on West Sixth Street.

Police were called to the 3000 block of West Sixth Street in reference to an auto burglary in progress. Officers located a man matching the suspect’s description near a vehicle parked in the 2500 block of West Sixth Street. The man fled the scene on foot and was detained after a short foot pursuit in the 500 block of Canyon Drive.

The man was arrested and booked into Douglas County Jail. During the course of the investigation, police discovered the suspect allegedly displayed a knife when a victim confronted him during one of the burglaries.

Incidents relating to this arrest involve residential and auto burglaries in the 3000, 2500 and 2600 blocks of West Sixth Street.
