Seminar targets jobs, tax relief

Lawrence Chamber of Commerce has organized a seminar, “Property Tax Relief and Job Creation: $$ and Sense in Lawrence,” to address economic development issues.

The event is set for 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. June 18 in the auditorium at Free State High School. It is free and open to the public.

The seminar, set up by the chamber’s Government and Community Affairs Committee, has two featured speakers scheduled to make presentations:

¢ Tim Cowden of the Kansas City Area Development Council.

¢ Art Hall, executive director of the Center for Applied Economics.

The professionals plan to review information regarding economic development in Lawrence and Douglas County. A panel discussion, featuring owners of local businesses, will review the processes behind businesses choosing Lawrence for operations; also scheduled to speak will be a representative from a firm that chose not to come to Lawrence.
