Governor to have more eye surgery

? Gov. David Paterson will undergo laser surgery today on his right eye, after receiving similar treatment on his left eye earlier this week, his spokesman in Albany said.

Paterson, 54, was briefly hospitalized Tuesday with migraine-like symptoms and diagnosed with acute glaucoma in his left eye. Doctors at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan performed a five-minute procedure, called an iridotomy, to relieve pressure within the eye and the governor was discharged later the same day.

Doctors said the glaucoma was likely to occur in Paterson’s right eye as well and that surgery was required. Gubernatorial spokesman Errol Cockfield said the procedure would take place today.

Paterson is blind in his left eye and can see only colors and large objects out of his right.
