New York City The Rev. Al Sharpton was arrested at the Brooklyn Bridge on Wednesday as he and hundreds of demonstrators blocked traffic to protest the acquittal of three detectives in the 50-bullet shooting of an unarmed black man on his wedding day.
Sharpton, two survivors of the shooting and the slain man's fiancee were among about a dozen people arrested on disorderly conduct charges near the base of the bridge. Police led away demonstrators at several other bridges and tunnels in the city.
The protests were part of a coordinated campaign to urge federal authorities to investigate the November 2006 shooting of Sean Bell. Three officers were acquitted of state charges last month.

Now can anyone name for me a victim of 50+ bullets that has been white?==========I agree that 50+ shots is way out of line, but two of the officers that shot him were black. Please shuffle the race card back into the deck.

"Please shuffle the race card back into the deck." - HaikuBeautiful Haiku. You mind if I steal that line. I know a lot of people that would love it.

A very under-reported fact of this unfortunate incident, is that Bell WASN'T shot 50 times. 50 shots total were fired, by three officers, with only 18 actually hitting the three men, (four of them hit Bell) according to the autopsy report. Its a very interesting ommission in almost every article I've seen about the Sean Bell case. 50 bullets actually hitting a single person would be a horrifying overkill (no pun intended) on the part of the officers. Clever wording on the part of reporters in this incident has seriously skewed what actually occured. The article above is a clear example of that. From the NY times:http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/08/nyregion/08shoot.html?_r=1&ref=nyregion&oref=slogin

Correction, 51 shots fired by 5 men is the new count according the the New York Time's article on the ballistics report.

I'm willing to bet that under the same events with a methed out white guy, the same exact thing would have happened. Previous gun charges, drug charges, hanging out in prostitution areas, trying to kill an officer twice with a car, telling someone "yo go get my gun" within earshot of an undercover officer, etc etc.If you don't expect to get shot for that, somethings wrong with you. Enough already with the Sharpton "white man got me down" attitude, just accept responsability for what horable things you do with your life, don't take it out on cops doing a job.

Good point, feticieira. Some people don't let the facts get in the way of a good sound bite.

Exactly feticieira, alot of people never look into what actually happens, they just hear someone got shot, hear poor reporting on it, then put the blinders on because of emotions.

Exactly, snap, and cds, "unarmed" "50-bullet shooting" and "wedding day" are much more exciting buzz words. I've been quite annoyed lately with people trying to champion Sharpton's cause by declaring that Bell was just torn to shreds by 50 bullets. The incident was unfortunate, but Sharpton's flair for the dramatic doesn't always lend itself to the whole truth.

Typical Sharpton. He is really trying way too hard.
