A budding arts organization in Lawrence now has a space to gather for its activities and shows.
The Percolator is a group of artists, writers and arts advocates who started meeting in the wake of several Lawrence gallery closings. Artist David Loewenstein's 4-1-1 Artspace served as a meeting spot for a while, but now the group has secured space at 913 R.I., in an alley between the Lawrence Arts Center and Ninth Street.
"As our name suggests, the Percolator aspires to create a lively, imaginative environment that complements what's happening in other local art spaces, rather than attempting to duplicate what already exists," says Heidi Zeller, one of the group's organizers.
She says the Percolator will focus on collaborations that cross artistic disciplines, as well as those that push the artistic envelope.
On Sunday, an exhibition called Artistamps opens in the gallery. It will include a cast-iron perforating machine, mail art, art stamps and ephemera from the collections of Boog Highberger, Andrea Repinsky and Eric Farnsworth. The exhibit will be open noon to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through June 8.
A reception will take place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, with an artist talk at 4 p.m.
