Suspect in KU rape case arrested

A suspect in a reported rape at a Kansas University residence hall was arrested Tuesday on a warrant in Pratt County, according to the KU Public Safety Office.

Cheryl Wright, a Douglas County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman, said the 19-year-old Wichita man has been charged with rape and aggravated burglary. He likely will appear today in Douglas County District Court, she said.

According to the public safety office, a 19-year-old woman said she was raped by a man she knew at a room in Gertrude Sellards Pearson Hall between 1:45 a.m. and 3 a.m. March 9.

A department report said the suspect, who is not a KU student, entered the room without permission. The Journal-World generally does not name those accused of sex crimes unless there is a conviction.
