Fires in two outdoor trash bins spread to a carport Wednesday night at a southwest Lawrence apartment complex.
Discarded hot or smoldering material may have ignited yard waste and cardboard boxes in the bins, according to a statement released by Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical. Damage was listed at $33,000.
Firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after 7 p.m. The fire was quickly extinguished and was declared under control at 7:17 p.m., the fire department said.
