Celebrity women ousted at poker series

Las Vegas – Living the poker lifestyle has cost these famous women some money.

Celebrities had it rough at the World Series of Poker on Sunday, with several famous women knocked out of the Ladies no-limit Texas Hold ’em event on the first day.

That included actress Jennifer Tilly, who in 2005 became the first celebrity to win a gold bracelet at the World Series. She busted out in the first hour of the $1,000 buy-in event when she couldn’t make a flush and lost to a straight.

Actress Camryn Manheim of ABC’s “The Practice” and CBS’s “Ghost Whisperer” was trounced from the field when her pocket kings ran into the pocket aces of Linda Johnson, a pro known as the First Lady of Poker.

Cheryl Hines of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” country singer Mindy McCready and actress Mimi Rogers were eliminated with the other celebrities less than five hours into three-day tournament.

Actress Shannon Elizabeth, who appeared in “American Pie,” did not play in the event because she was still in a $10,000 7-card stud tournament being played at the same time.

Dylan believes in Obama’s change

London – Bob Dylan believes Barack Obama is redefining politics in the United States and could deliver change to a nation in upheaval, according to a British newspaper interview published Saturday.

In an interview with the Times of London, the musician is quoted as saying that Obama has changed politics in the U.S., though Dylan does not specifically endorse the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee

“Well, you know right now America is in a state of upheaval. Poverty is demoralizing. You can’t expect people to have the virtue of purity when they are poor,” Dylan is quoted as saying.

“But we’ve got this guy out there now who is redefining the nature of politics from the ground up … Barack Obama,” he was quoted as saying. “He’s redefining what a politician is, so we’ll have to see how things play out. Am I hopeful? Yes, I’m hopeful that things might change. Some things are going to have to.”

The 67-year-old singer has an exhibition of his art work opening in London this week.

Alanis Morissette still channeling anger

New York – Alanis Morissette is not the person Rob Thomas thought she was.

Matchbox Twenty and its lead singer once saw her as a Zen-like soul, Morissette told Newsweek for its issue hitting newsstands today.

“He kept saying that whenever I wasn’t with him, his imagining was that I was levitating somewhere, meditating,” the Canadian singer said.

But then, “we had the most debaucherous, entertaining, hysterical time together, so they were the first to say that their perception of me was a little off,” she told the magazine. She did not elaborate on the debaucherous details.

Morissette is in the process of releasing her latest album “Flavors of Entanglement” and writing her first book, a compilation of essays, photographs and mood-boosting exercises.

She uses writing as an outlet for her anger, which she said is not directed toward ex-boyfriend Ryan Reynolds. The actor recently became engaged to actress Scarlett Johansson.

“I’m really happy for him,” she said.
