Science-fiction authors gather for reading series

Oread Books, on level 2 in the Kansas Union on the KU Campus, will host a day-long series of readings Saturday featuring more than 10 noted authors of science fiction and fantasy. The events are held in conjunction with the annual Campbell Conference and its John W. Campbell and Theodore Sturgeon Awards. The Campbell Conference is the concluding event of the Writer’s Workshop, the Novel Writers Writer’s Workshop in Science Fiction and the beginning of the Intensive English Institute on the Teaching of Science Fiction, taught through the Center for the Study of Science Fiction at KU. The schedule for the day’s events includes:

¢ 10 a.m. – David Moles reading

¢ 10:45 a.m. – Frederik Pohl reading

¢ 11:30 a.m. – Kij Johnson reading

¢ 12:45-1:45 p.m. – book signing featuring Robin Wayne Bailey, Karen Joy Fowler, James Gunn, Karen Hellekson, Kij Johnson, Christopher McKitterick, Frederik Pohl, Eric Reynolds, Joan Slonczewski, James Van Pelt and the winner of the 2008 John W. Campbell Award

¢ 1:45 p.m. – Lane Robins reading

¢ 2:30 p.m. – Karen Joy Fowler reading

¢ 3:15 p.m. – James Van Pelt reading

¢ 4 p.m. – Kathleen Ann Goonan reading
