Formal charges have been filed against a 22-year-old Lawrence man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident, District Attorney Charles Branson announced late Friday.

Jake Deckert is charged with failure to yield the right-of-way, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident.

The charges stem from the May 4 death of Thomas Crum, 60, Lawrence. Crum was killed in a two-car crash near Sixth Street and Gateway Drive, just west of Lawrence Avenue.

Crum had been celebrating his 60th birthday with family just before the crash.

Police found Deckert the day after the accident.

He is scheduled to appear in court at 3 p.m. Aug. 12.
