McConaughey, girlfriend welcome baby boy

Los Angeles – Matthew McConaughey’s longtime model girlfriend, Camila Alves, has given birth to the couple’s first child, a 7-pound, 4-ounce boy.

Alves, 24, gave birth Monday night in California, McConaughey’s publicist, Alan Nierob, said in an e-mail Tuesday to The Associated Press.

The 38-year-old actor announced that Alves was pregnant in a posting on his Web site in January.

“Camila and I were side by side the entire time,” McConaughey told OK! magazine. “We are both tired and elated, and are so happy to have created the greatest miracle in the world – having a child and making a family.

“Now comes the greatest adventure – raising one, together.”

Barrymore, Long end relationship

New York – Justin Long and Drew Barrymore have ended their romance, the actor’s publicist said Tuesday.

“I just wanted to confirm that, yes, they did break up,” Carrie Gordon told The Associated Press in a phone interview, adding that the couple remain friends. Gordon didn’t give further details.

Barrymore, 33, and Long, 30, co-star in the movie adaptation of the self-help best-seller “He’s Just Not That Into You,” slated for release next February.

The split comes as a surprise, given their public displays of affection since they began dating last year.

Long’s big-screen credits include “Accepted” and “Dodgeball,” and he’s also the “Mac guy” in Apple’s TV commercials. Barrymore’s screen credits include “50 First Dates” and “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial.”

Psychiatrist: Brinkley should try therapy

Central Islip, N.Y. – A court-appointed psychiatrist sized up Christie Brinkley’s ill-fated fourth marriage Tuesday, saying the model needs to examine her taste in men and her cheating husband is a narcissist with a bottomless ego.

But between them, Brinkley should get custody of their two children, Dr. Stephen Herman said at their divorce trial.

Herman’s testimony added a dispassionate, but intimate viewpoint to a case piled high with dirty laundry. Brinkley’s estranged husband, architect Peter Cook, has admitted having an affair with a teenager who worked in his office and spending thousands of dollars on Internet pornography.

Herman had harsh words for Cook in a report for the court, saying the architect had an insatiable ego and “needs constant reassurance that he is a terrific guy.”

But Brinkley “needs to start working on deeper issues” – including “her choice of male figures,” Herman said under questioning by the children’s attorney, Theresa Mari. He said the former Sports Illustrated swimsuit model needs therapy as “an outlet for her anger and feeling of betrayal” by her unfaithful husband. Herman called for therapy for Cook, too.

Steve-O says sobriety won’t stop stunts

Los Angeles – Sobriety won’t change some things about Steve-O – the daredevil prankster says he could still perform many of the radical stunts that made him famous.

“I can do what I’ve done in the past,” the 34-year-old said after appearing in a Los Angeles criminal courtroom for a Tuesday hearing, where his attorney gave a progress report on Steve-O’s recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

The judge said he wanted to see the stuntman, whose real name is Stephen Glover, again in about two months. The updates are required after Glover pleaded guilty to cocaine possession in early June.

Glover dressed for Tuesday’s hearing in blue jeans, sneakers and a button-down shirt that barely concealed a hospital wristband.

On July 3, he posted a MySpace missive saying he had checked himself back into a treatment facility. He said Tuesday he did so on the advice of his psychiatrist.

“I did a lot of damage to my brain,” Glover said, adding he still suffers from bipolar and mood disorders.

He acknowledged the treatment has changed how he views things.

“I adjusted my sense of what’s acceptable and unacceptable,” Glover said.

Reporter talks about her baby drama

New York – Lara Logan, the chief foreign affairs correspondent for CBS News, tells The Washington Post she is pregnant, and the father is a married federal contractor whom she met while stationed in Iraq.

Logan’s relationship with Joseph Burkett – who’s in the midst of a divorce from wife Kimberly, with whom he has a 3-year-old daughter – has made media headlines, including the front page of the New York Post.

Logan is going through a divorce from estranged husband Jason Siemon, a Chicago-based energy lobbyist whom she married in 1998.

“Nobody likes to read about themselves like that, especially the way it’s been sensationalized,” Logan, 37, told The Washington Post. “I hated it. But I’m just going to rise above it and keep going.”

Logan, whose pregnancy was unplanned, told the newspaper her due date is in January, and she’s “looking forward to being a mom.”

Logan – a South Africa native who began dating Burkett following her November breakup with CNN correspondent Michael Ware – said she and Burkett plan to marry eventually.
