Lied Center needs ushers

The Lied Center is in need of 20 to 30 ushers to help with greeting patrons, handing out programs and tearing tickets for upcoming performances.

Volunteer ushers must commit for 6 months and sign up for events at the beginning of each semester. Usher orientation will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, in the Lied Center Auditorium.

Immediate needs

¢ The Youth Volunteer Council seeks youths ages 11 to 18 to assist with a project at the Kaw Valley Center from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19. Volunteers will be making back-to-school packs for Douglas County children in foster care.

¢ Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore seeks regular, weekly or single day volunteers to help carry and sort new donations of building materials, assist customers in selecting and loading purchases, and light cleaning and prep of materials. Heavy lifting is not required.

¢ The Lawrence Arts Center seeks volunteers for children’s art classes and camps. Summer activities continue during July and early August. Fall classes begin in September.

¢ Clinton Lake U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is looking for volunteers interested in one-time or ongoing tasks such as litter pickup, various painting jobs, weeding/mulching of decorative plantings, trail maintenance and other tasks, as needed.

¢ The Lawrence Community Theatre is looking for people to help both on- and offstage during productions.

Volunteers on stage can work as actors and as crew members working with props, costumes, set construction, lights and sound. Volunteers offstage can help as house managers, ushers, box office attendants and bartenders. Volunteers are also needed to help in the business office for a variety of tasks from taking ticket reservations to filing, photocopying and other general office tasks.
