Teacher recognized for certification

Board members Monday night recognized Terri Durgan, a Quail Run School fourth-grade teacher, who recently earned her National Board Certification.

“Only the best of the best and only the smartest of the smartest even try to go for their National Board Certification,” Quail Run Principal Debbie Tann said.

Tann said Durgan is one of just more than 260 Kansas teachers who have earned the certification.

Board members also accepted early retirement, effective May 23, of four educators who have a combined 112 years of service in the district.

They are: Teresa Clough, a West Junior High School guidance counselor, 32 years in the district; Phyllis Copt, a Free State High School English teacher, 27 years in the district; James Nye, an industrial arts teacher at South Junior High School, 32 years in the district; and, Janet Ross, a Lawrence High School computer studies teacher, 21 years in the district.
