A judge has ordered a 21-year-old Lawrence man to stand trial on charges of raping a woman late last month after meeting her at a local nightclub.

During a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Douglas County District Court, a Lawrence police officer testified that the man admitted to sexually assaulting the woman inside an apartment in the 2400 block of Alabama, after giving her a ride home from Club Axis, 821 Iowa.

Police were called to the apartment complex about 3 a.m. Dec. 28, where they found the 23-year-old Jersey City, N.J., woman bleeding from the face.

The trial is set for March 31. The suspect remains in the Douglas County Jail. Bond is set at $100,000.

The Journal-World generally does not identify those charged with sex crimes unless there is a conviction.
