Viewing the Future

By Elaine Smith

In our world today, many changes take place,

Some good, some bad, but all we must face!

We talk of economics, unemployment and the recession

But most of us remember the Great Depression.

It was in the ’30s that we lived in hard times,

Many households were penniless, not even a dime!

Crops were ruined by grasshoppers and drought,

Scarcely a morsel was left for the mouth.

The minimum hourly wage was 25 cents per hour,

Today, that would hardly pay tax on a sack of flour.

It seems things are not working out to perfection!

Tell me, are we headed in the same direction?

Unemployment, economics, wars, murders and drugs

Means the government hasn’t worked out all the bugs!

We look to the future with hope as we pray,

That God will watch over us every day.
