Two people arrested on second degree murder charges

Two people were arrested this morning for the murder of man in a Lawrence mobile home park.

Jared Buffalohead, 36, Lawrence, and Shanna “Shay” Friday, 37, Topeka were booked into Douglas County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Lawrence police this morning identified the victim as Jerry Deshazer, 62. His body was found at 11:55 a.m. Saturday in a mobile home at Brookwood Mobile Home Park, 1908 E. 19th St. Police spent much of the weekend investigating the death and laboratory specialists from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation assisted, police Capt. Mike Pattrick said in a news release.

An autopsy conducted Sunday determined that Deshazer was a homicide victim, Pattrick said. No other information was being released about the man’s death.

Lawrence police have said further information about the case would come from Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson’s office.

Cheryl Wright, a spokeswoman in Branson’s office, said prosecutors were still reviewing the investigation about what specific charges to file.

Branson was in court this morning and unavailable for comment.

Wright said the two suspects likely would not make a first appearance before a judge today. According to Judge Pro Tem Peggy Kittel’s office, the two suspects, who are being held in the Douglas County Jail, will likely appear in court Tuesday.
