Crews contain fire at Eudora garage

? Fire broke out just after 6 p.m. in a home’s garage in the 1000 block of Main Street in Eudora on Wednesday evening.

An isolated garage on the property was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived, Eudora Fire Chief Randy Ates said.

“A house to the south was smoking, and the wall of the house to the north was beginning to burn,” Ates said.

In addition to the Eudora Fire Department, crews responding to the fire were from Eudora Township, Wakarusa Township, Reno Township and Palmyra Township.

“We are very thankful to our neighbors for helping us out,” Ates said. “Crews pushed the fire back from the exposures. When we arrived on scene, we really thought we were going to have a two-story home burning also.”

No one was injured in the fire.

An electrical problem related to a new air compressor was the cause of the fire, which caused an estimated $200,000 in damage, Ates said.

The garage was filled with cars and automotive equipment, Ates said.
