A former Lawrence resident was in the center of a suicide bombing incident Tuesday in China.

A man entered Salvador’s coffee shop in Kunming, China, and detonated a bomb that he was carrying. The restaurant is partially owned by Kris Ariel, who lived in Lawrence from 1994 to 2001.

Ariel’s mother, Salina resident Roshana Ariel, said her son was not injured.

A motive behind the bombing was not immediately clear.
