Law enforcement report

Police at Kansas University are investigating a sexual battery outside Jayhawker Towers, which was reported exactly one year after the alleged crime took place.

KU Public Safety Office Capt. Mark Witt said a female was sexually battered while being helped out of a car about 2 a.m. Dec. 15, 2007. The crime, which police said happened in a parking lot on the eastern side of Jayhawker Towers, was reported to officers Monday.

Witt said the suspect, who is an acquaintance of the victim, hasn’t yet been interviewed.

Police had no information about why the crime was reported exactly one year later.

Injury accidents

• The Kansas Highway Patrol reported injury accidents on Interstate 35 in Franklin County Tuesday afternoon. Two Quenemo residents suffered possible injuries when their 2002 Ford Explorer crossed the median at 2:30 p.m.

Also, a Marlin, Texas, man lost control on the icy and snow-packed road of his 2003 Chevrolet van at 3:08 p.m. while headed north on I-35, and he slid through the median and into the southbound lane where he struck a truck. Another southbound truck also struck the Chevrolet van.

The Texas man, Clayton E. Moden, 63, was taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
