Search under way for missing Perry man

Shawn Fowler

Law enforcement officers are asking for the public’s help in finding a missing man after an extensive search for him since Friday has been unsuccessful.

Shawn Fowler, 44, has been missing since 2 p.m. last Wednesday from Perry, about 17 miles northwest of Lawrence, a news release from the city’s police department said. Police said Fowler has a medical condition that can cause him to become disoriented and confused at times.

Fowler is 6 feet tall, weighs 180 pounds, and has long brown hair and a beard, police said.

Volunteers from several area fire departments used SUVs Friday, when Fowler was reported missing, to search for him in Perry and the surrounding rural area, police said. Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies, who also assisted in the search, used a sonar device Saturday to search the Delaware River, which borders Fowler’s home, police said. The Kansas Highway Patrol also conducted searches by air.

On Thursday, emergency workers plan to drag the river, Perry Police Chief Ramon Gonzalez said.

“We’re just waiting for information,” he said.

Any information about Fowler should be reported to Jefferson County emergency officials at (785) 863-2351.
