Tanker, semi-trailer truck involved in accident

A tanker truck, with Rollet Brothers Trucking, hit a semi-trailer truck with Hamm Quarry, as it was making a left-hand turn from the southbound lane of U.S. Highway 24-59 onto U.S. Highway 24-40. No one was injured, but crews from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical were called on scene to clean-up a diesel spill from the Hamm Quarry truck.

Police arrested a 23-year-old Topeka man in relation to an armed robbery reported in the 1300 block of Tennessee Street late Friday night. Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl said that at 11 p.m., a 23-year-old KU student was exiting her vehicle in the alley on the west side of Tennessee Street. She reported that a 6-foot, 240-pound black male wearing a ski mask and dark-colored clothes accosted her with a handgun.
