Eudora church celebrating 150 years

Four founding families had the vision to form Clearfield Methodist Church just outside of Eudora 150 years ago.

This weekend, the congregation is gathering in its Sunday ritual, but this time, it also is recognizing the historic milestone.

“It’s an honor to be able to serve a church of people who so love God and love the church that keep it going,” says Harriett Bechtle, Clearfield’s pastor.

Sunday, the church will join just three others throughout Eastern Kansas to have reached the 150-year mark. Today, there are still descendants from the founding members’ families that continue to help keep the church moving forward.

“We’ve had our family a part of this church for 150 years since it was started and a part of the school that is down the road, this has been my family’s community,” says Kim Ferguson, who is a descendant of one of the founding families.

Sunday will feature a full service, followed by a lunch for the congregation.
