Chamber CEO finalists to interview next week

Three finalists are scheduled to be in Lawrence next week to interview – formally and informally – for the open job as president and chief executive officer of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce.

One candidate per day is scheduled to visit Tuesday, Sept. 4 and Sept. 5. Each candidate will be interviewed by the chamber’s board of directors in the morning, then meet, greet and address some of the chamber’s 1,200 members during a session later in the day.

The sessions for the general chamber membership are set for 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day at the Lied Center on Kansas University’s West Campus. Candidate presentations are set for 5 p.m.

The finalists, all of whom have experience working for a chamber of commerce, emerged during a national search that included more than 300 initial contacts with potential candidates.

The chamber is looking for someone to take the job vacated by Lavern Squier, who resigned earlier this year and now works for the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce.

Chuck Warner, a retired bank president, has been serving as interim president and CEO since April. No timeline for hiring a new leader has been set.
