A 33-year-old Lawrence resident accidentally shot himself in the lower torso Saturday night while putting a pistol in his waistband, Lawrence police said.

The victim was taken by helicopter to a Kansas City area hospital after receiving the gunshot wound about 7:15 p.m. Saturday in the 2100 block of East 25th Court, police said. His injuries were not life threatening, a police report said.
