An Indiana man has been charged in Douglas County District Court with a child sex crime that allegedly happened more than 25 years ago.
John Matthew Lotz, 62, of Terre Haute, Indiana, was booked into the Douglas County Jail on Tuesday, according to jail records, and is charged with one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.
The complaint against him alleges that between Feb. 1 and April 1, 2001, Lotz had sexual intercourse with a teenager under the age of 16. The alleged victim’s date of birth is partially omitted from the complaint, but their birth year was 1985.
The charge against Lotz could result in a sentence of between 55 months in prison, or about 4 1/2 years, and 247 months, or more than 20 years, and a fine of up to $300,000 if he were convicted.
Lotz’s next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday. He is being held in the Douglas County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
