A former emergency responder from Ottawa has pleaded guilty to distribution of child pornography, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said on Wednesday.

Dylan Jamescupp, 34, previously worked for the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department as an emergency medical technician, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. In 2021 and 2022, the release said, he used social media to trade child pornography with other people, making new accounts when he was banned from a platform.

In response to tips received by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the FBI executed a search warrant at Jamescupp’s home in March of 2024, seized his electronic devices and did a forensic analysis that found sexually explicit images and video of children — more than 2,300 photos and 369 videos. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said GPS information from Jamescupp’s phone indicated that he was sent child pornography while he was at the fire department.

The release also said that Jamescupp told investigators he had viewed explicit material involving children as young as 8 years old.

Jamescupp’s sentencing is set for Nov. 3, the release said.
