McMahon to sell home, but not to Trump
Los Angeles – Ed McMahon is on the move.
McMahon has agreed to a deal with a private buyer for his hilltop home, said Howard Bragman, the former “Tonight” show sidekick’s spokesman.
Bragman declined to name the buyer or the selling price. But he said it isn’t real estate mogul Donald Trump, who recently offered to buy McMahon’s home and act as a landlord.
“For Mr. Trump, this acquisition was not business-related, but, as he has stated, was meant to help out an American icon,” said Michael Cohen, special counsel to Trump. “If another buyer should emerge who will create the benefit Mr. Trump sought for Ed McMahon, then he is clearly pleased.”
Bragman said McMahon and his wife, Pamela, will move out of the home when the sale is complete.
The couple’s property is located in a hilltop gated community that is also home to Britney Spears.
McMahon has faced money woes for months, with creditors filing lawsuits against him for everything from unpaid prescription medicines to loans.
His home was facing foreclosure after he defaulted on a $4.8 million loan.
Faded rocker Glitter finally arrives in Britain
London – A British news agency says that disgraced rocker Gary Glitter has returned to London.
Glitter’s return Friday ends a two-day odyssey after his release from a Vietnamese prison where he served time for molesting children.
Press Association says police officers were waiting to meet the 64-year-old. He had been refused entry to Thailand and then Hong Kong before agreeing to return to his native country.
Glitter’s real name is Paul Francis Gadd. He was convicted in Vietnam in 2006 of committing “obscene acts with children” – offenses involving girls aged 10 and 11. He had a previous conviction in Britain for possessing child pornography.
Glitter’s most successful song, the crowd-pleasing anthem “Rock and Roll (Part 2),” cracked the top 10 in the U.S.
‘Wire’ actress arrested on minor drug charge
Baltimore – An actress who appeared on the HBO series “The Wire” has been arrested on minor drug charges.
Court records show Felicia “Snoop” Pearson, who played a killer of the same name on the television series, was charged after police went to her home in Northeast Baltimore to pick her up for refusing to cooperate as a witness in a murder trial.
She was arrested Wednesday after police served a warrant that would allow them to detain her, if needed, until the Sept. 16 trial of Steven Lashley. Court documents say Pearson is accused of having two cigars containing suspected marijuana in a bedroom and loose plant material. She was charged with one count of drug possession.
Authorities say Pearson witnessed Lashley stab three men, killing one, during an argument in 2005.
Da Brat sentenced to 3 years for assault
Decatur, Ga. – Da Brat was sentenced Friday to three years in prison for hitting a hostess in the head with a rum bottle during an altercation at a suburban Atlanta nightclub last fall.
The 34-year-old rapper, whose given name is Shawntae Harris, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in DeKalb County. Superior Court Judge Gail Flake sentenced her to three years behind bars and seven on probation, plus 200 hours of community service and completion of substance abuse treatment, mental evaluation and anger management classes.
Harris was at a private Halloween party at Studio 72, a club in Tucker, when she struck then-Atlanta Falcons cheerleader Shayla Stevens, who was working part-time as a hostess.
A police report indicated Harris and Stevens got into a squabble after they bumped into each other. Stevens walked away and moments later was hit in the face with the bottle.
She sustained a deep cut to the cheek and some swelling on the forehead, and has a permanent scar on her face as a result, officials said.
Recordings by Da Brat, a native of Chicago and a protege of Jermaine Dupri, include the song “Funkdafied.” She also has appeared on reality shows such as “Celebrity Fit Club” and “The Surreal Life.”
Kattan separating from wife after 2 months
Los Angeles – Chris Kattan’s marriage to his model wife lasted almost as long as a “Saturday Night Live” skit.
The comedian filed for legal separation from model wife Sunshine Tutt after only eight weeks of marriage. The couple were married June 28 in Yosemite Valley.
They spent roughly a month together; Kattan’s filings indicate they separated on Aug. 10. The couple have no children together, and Kattan’s filing in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday indicates the pair have a prenuptial agreement.
By filing for separation instead of divorce, Kattan is leaving the door open for a reunion with Tutt, but is indicating the pair intend to live separate lives for the time being.
Kattan, 37, appeared on “SNL” from 1996 to 2003. His screen credits include “Corky Romano” and “A Night at the Roxbury.”
The couple became engaged on Christmas Eve 2006.
An e-mail to Kattan’s publicist was not immediately returned Friday evening.
