Nixon discloses breast cancer battle

New York – Cynthia Nixon has joined forces with the breast cancer organization Susan G. Komen for the Cure and is going public with her own battle with breast cancer.

Nixon, who is reprising her role as Miranda in HBO’s “Sex and the City” in an upcoming movie, had a lumpectomy two years ago and then underwent six and a half weeks of radiation. She also helped her mother battle breast cancer.

“As the daughter of a breast cancer survivor, knowing my personal risk made me more aware and more empowered when I faced my own diagnosis,” the 42-year-old actress said in a statement. “I want to help Susan G. Komen for the Cure educate the 1.1 million women around the globe who face a diagnosis each year.”

Nixon will serve as an ambassador for the organization and will share her cancer experiences in a series of Web videos.

Suspect skips stalking trial

Vienna, Austria – Austrian authorities searched Wednesday for a woman who failed to appear for the start of her trial on charges of stalking and threatening to kill “CSI: Miami” star David Caruso.

A judge signed a warrant for the woman’s arrest after she failed to show up for Wednesday’s trial in the city of Innsbruck, Austrian media reported. The Tiroler Tageszeitung newspaper said her lawyer had reassured authorities last week that she intended to be in court.

The public prosecutor’s office in the province of Tyrol said the suspect vanished without a trace and took her laptop with her.

Prosecutors allege the woman sent more than 100 letters to Caruso and pursued the American actor for an autograph. They said Caruso received death threats after refusing to give her the autograph.

In line with Austrian privacy laws, authorities identified the defendant only as a 41-year-old native of Tyrol.

Endangerment charge against Sambora sought

Laguna Beach, Calif. – Police are asking the district attorney to file a misdemeanor child endangerment charge against Richie Sambora, who had two children in his car when he was arrested for investigation of drunken driving last month.

Authorities haven’t released the names of a woman and two girls in Sambora’s car when the Bon Jovi guitarist was stopped March 25.

Laguna Beach police Sgt. Jason Kravetz said Sambora, 48, was arrested without incident after failing a field sobriety test. He is scheduled to be arraigned May 7.

Police are recommending that driving under the influence and misdemeanor child endangerment charges be filed. The Orange County district attorney’s office will make the final decision.
