Poet’s Showcase: ‘Nostalgic Lawrence Homes’
Strolling through historic Lawrence
is akin to walking through
a parlor filled with people
Each house has its own special charm.
There’s that gray wooden structure
on Kentucky Street that smiles back at you
with its bright white window frames.
Another on Tennessee holds its umbrella
for you with its tall pillared arms.
A stately home on Illinois Street
with its brick frontage
and square billet moldings
provides a stone path for your processional entry.
Farther south is a stately mansion
that at one time welcomed invited guests
to elegant tea parties and banquets
but now draws fraternity members
into its hallowed, high-ceiling halls.
All of these houses hold memories.
Yet all one has to do to relive them
is to stroll through historic Lawrence.
