  11. d_prowess (anonymous) says…

Are there really that many stores shut down Sunday afternoon? I go down there all the time on Sunday and don't feel like I have ever walked past a store closed during the afternoon.

KU never said there would not be a parade, the paper incorrectly stated that they had.LJWorld, journalism INDEED!

  15. thetagger (anonymous) says…

Yeah, the stores usually closed on Sunday afternoon will open up for the parade. You can bank on that.

  16. meyerst29 (anonymous) says…

Why not include the football team? They deserve it too.

I work downtown, and most stores are open for at least a portion of the day Sunday. Many close around 5pm, so this gives us plenty of time to do some extra business to out-of-towners AND clear out the downtown area before we're all trying to close down and get outta here! :)

  22. mommaeffortx2 (anonymous) says…

I agree they should include the football team the would just be double cool.

  23. mommaeffortx2 (anonymous) says…

ok I know can't spell don't use spell check don't use punctuation but hey you get my point most times:)

  24. fletch (anonymous) says…

They should get the KU Football team in there as well and make it a full blown parade of champions.

Great, by Sunday my voice will be back again and I can say WooHoo again!

  26. WHY (anonymous) says…

Does anyone wonder why it took so long to say they would have one. If the team doesn't care about the fans why do the fans care about the team. The Team should go out of its way to thank those who support them maybe even longer than one hour.

Everyone chill out-we asked for it and got it. Stop with the constant grass is greener garbage.

well, wish i could be there be there for that too but at least I was in Lawrence for the championship game. what a memorable night. Go KU!!

WHY--why don't you use your head? Do you think for one minute that it was the team dragging their heels about having a parade?! Don't take your resentment out on them. It was the brainiacs running the KU Athletic Association. To quote from Tuesday's article on the subject of a parade, "Jim Marchiony, assistant athletic director for KU, said the athletic department had no plans for the basketball team to take part in a parade down Massachusetts Street, which was a crescendo to the celebration in 1988 when the Jayhawks last won the crown."If you want to gripe about why they seemed so reluctant, it would be more fair to direct your negative comments toward this gentleman, not toward the team.

Fair enough, but I say this: the past four weekends there have been four tournaments. As Max said yesterday: "We're all tired." A lot of people in the AD have spent a lot of time on the road in the past month. As someone who wears the travellin' shoes often I sympathize that they were unable to instantly take care of such things. Having said this, Marchioni does seem vacant as a parking lot at times.

  34. gogoplata (anonymous) says…

Thanks for coming to your senses Marchiony.

Maybe, just maybe the bigwigs at KU had other things on their minds besides planning a parade, I'm sure they were being pulled in a thousand different directions with people everywhere wanting something from them. They never said they didn't want to have a parade, they just said they had no plans at that time. Geez, they weren't even given a chance to get back home and take a breather before everyone started bashing on them. Sure I don't like a lot of things Lew has done, but give them a break, I'm sure they're just as excited or more so than everyone else.I actually kind of feel sorry for the players. I bet they haven't had a minute to themselves since they won. Remember they're just kids, they accomplished something great and they're expected to be available to everyone and do it with a smile on their faces. I'm sure they're happy that all the fans are so excited, and grateful for the fans, but please remember they're just kids and they're trying to soak it all in.

They won the game Monday night, came home on Tuesday and announced a parade on Wednesday. At least give the guys a chance to unpack their luggage. Sheesh!

  37. sunflowerks54 (anonymous) says…

I agree that the football team should be included!
