A 26-year-old Topeka man was arrested early Friday morning on one count of rape.

Lawrence police were called to a west Lawrence residence at 4 a.m. Friday regarding a possible sexual assault after a 21-year-old Lawrence woman reported that she awoke to find a man in bed next to her and touching her inappropriately. According to a Lawrence police report, the Topeka man is an acquaintance of the woman’s roommate. The victim ordered the man away and he left.

Police located the suspect in a vehicle leaving the area. Once they stopped the car, they took the suspect to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for evidence collection and he was then arrested. The incident is still under investigation. Further details were unavailable Friday.
