Charges filed in child sex crime

A 34-year-old Lawrence man was charged Wednesday with two counts of sexual exploitation of a child.

The man is accused of promoting sexually explicit conduct by a child under 14 years old. The incident allegedly occurred between Feb. 17 and March 4, according to court papers.

During that same time, he also is accused of recording or obtaining a recording of child under 18 engaging in sexually explicit behavior.

No other information was released.

The suspect was arrested earlier this week and is being held in Douglas County Jail on $100,000 bond. He is to appear in court April 30 for a preliminary hearing.
