Jefferson County ? A 21-year-old Ohio woman was hospitalized after crashing a car into a tree early Saturday morning in Jefferson County, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.

Renee D. Cook, Frankfort, Ohio, was traveling eastbound on Kansas Highway 16 about 3 1/2 miles east of Oskaloosa, when the 2000 Toyota she was driving left the roadway and struck a fence and tree, according to a report.

The crash happened at 3:35 a.m. at Wellman Road, the report said.

The highway patrol said Cook was taken to Kansas University hospital in Kansas City, Kan., where a nursing supervisor wouldn’t release her condition Saturday morning.

The highway patrol is investigating whether Cook was wearing a seat belt.
