KU religion professor to give book signing
Robert Minor, professor of religious studies at Kansas University, will present a talk and book signing from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at Oread Books in the Kansas Union.
Minor is the author of “When Religion Is an Addiction,” published in August by HumanityWorks. The event is free, and the public is welcome.
“When Religion is an Addiction” is a new analysis and suggested response to the extreme Christian right-wing in America today. Minor suggests that a portion of the religious right-wing uses religion the way an addict uses their addiction, allowing the emotional “high” of self-righteousness to eliminate responsibility for their actions’ painful toll on other human beings in both personal and political contexts.
Minor has taught at KU for 30 years and was the chairman of the religious studies department for six. He is the author of eight books, including five on religion in South Asia. His current research is on gender studies and the relationships of religion, gender and sexuality.
