The Smartcode approach to community growth will be discussed by Douglas County Commission during tonight's meeting.
Smartcode was a planning system presented earlier this year to Lawrence City Commission by PlaceMakers consulting group. Commissioners want to know how the system might affect the county if it were instituted. City-county planning staff member Dan Warner will conduct the discussion.
The Smartcode approach has been described as channeling growth in community-approved patterns.
Commissioners will meet at 5:30 p.m. today on the second floor of the county courthouse, an hour earlier than the normal meeting time.
