Downtown after-school program back in session

The Wednesdays at Liberty Hall program seeks volunteers to assist with programs serving junior high students from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. every Wednesday.

Volunteers will help greet students, assist with fun and educational events, promote events downtown and help plan and coordinate programs and must commit until the end of the semester in December.

Immediate volunteer needs

  • Wakarusa Valley School needs volunteers for after-school program tutors and mentors. The program meets from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Mondays. Contact Aimee Ziegler at aziegler@usd497.org or 423-4132.
  • Volunteers are needed to provide child care for children with special needs and their siblings. The parents will be attending the NAMI Kansas Visions for Tomorrow course from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on four Mondays, Sept. 10, 17 and 24 and Oct. 1. Parents and children will be in adjacent rooms.   • Small World needs volunteers to assist in classrooms every Tuesday and Thursday as nursery caregivers, English tutors, children’s program classroom assistants, library assistants, assistant teachers, a hospitality chair and an administrative assistant.   • New York School seeks volunteers to tutor students or assist with homework from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays for their after-school program. Volunteers are needed from now until the end of the school year. Contact Corey Harris at (913) 832-0988 to help.
