Attack victim gets restraining order

More than two weeks after the brutal attack of a 22-year-old Lawrence woman, a Douglas County judge granted a restraining order in the case.

District Judge Stephen Six signed a final protection from abuse order Thursday afternoon, prohibiting Kansas University senior Matthew Jaeger from having any contact with his ex-girlfriend for a period of one year.

An attorney from Kansas Legal Services told the judge the woman was unable to appear in person for the hearing because of her medical condition.

Jaeger is accused of breaking into the woman’s apartment in the 1200 block of George Court, attacking her, dragging her down the stairs by her hair, and forcing her into a waiting car.

Jaeger was released from the Douglas County Jail on Wednesday after posting $850,000 bond. He did not appear in court for the hearing.
