DeVictor Park, a new park in west Lawrence, soon will be dedicated by city leaders.

The dedication of the park at 1100 George Williams Way is set for 4 p.m. Oct. 26 at the park. The dedication ceremony will include a trail walk around the park.

When complete, the park will include a playground, outdoor classroom and a hard-surface trail.

The park is named for Fred DeVictor, the longtime director of Lawrence Parks and Recreation, who retired from the post this year.

Why don't we just name parks like "Corrupt City Manager" park, or "Worthless City Commission" park?

Ragingbear - I guess you didn't get the memo. We are going to name roundabouts after those folks. I propose the one at 19th and Barker be named "Boog Eternal Circle". And of course one must be named the "Rundleabout".

Actually, I believe Boog(er) was the only one against them. But I can't be sure. Not to mention that real round-a-bouts don't suck like the ones we have here.

The other day I found one in the middle of a street, without any side streets connecting. That's right. Just a straight road with a round-a-bout in it.

    Ahhhhhh yes, traffic-calming, Lawrence-style.
