Senator not allowed to stay on board

? A regulatory commission has decided a state senator can’t serve on the board of a nonprofit group involved with gambling in southeast Kansas.

Sen. Jim Barone is a Democrat from Frontenac and the president of The Racing Association of Kansas Southeast, or TRAK Southeast. The nonprofit group holds a license for the now-closed Camptown Greyhound Park in Barone’s hometown.

Barone sought to renew a license to serve on TRAK Southeast’s board. But the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission rejected a background report on him Friday, preventing him from obtaining the renewal.

The senator described himself as flabbergasted and said the commission’s staff hasn’t discussed his background report with him.
