Theater announces children’s programming
Lawrence Community Theatre will offer three new workshops for students in first through fifth grades during the fall school holidays. The “School’s Out, Theatre’s In” programs will include:
Oct. 19: “Lions and Tigers and Makeup, Oh My!”
Some say the clothes make the man, but in this workshop kids will discover how the makeup can make the animal. With Halloween just around the corner, join this one-day workshop and try out your ideas using stage make-up. Each person will create an animal design, try it out, then improvise with the other animals.
Nov. 2: “Ships Ahoy!”
Sail the seven seas and discover new islands, wild creatures and adventure. Participants will act out the story and create whatever it takes to make it on a new island.
Nov. 8-9: “Radiomania!”
What did people do for entertainment before television and video games? In this two-day workshop, you will put together a 1940s-style radio program. Learn how to make different sound effects both with materials and your voice. At the end of the second day, we’ll record our performance as well as perform it for a live studio audience.
All sessions run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the theater, 1501 N.H. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch. Fees for the one-day workshops are $25 and include materials, instruction and snacks. The fee for the two-day workshop is $45. Scholarship assistance is available. Call 843-7469 for more information.
