Friends remember couple lost at sea

? About 20 people gathered early Saturday behind a waterfront Star Island mansion, set to pay tribute to relatives and friends lost at sea.

For this water-bound memorial, there’d be no ashes to spread. No one has seen the bodies of husband and wife Jake and Kelley Branam, Scott Gamble or Samuel Kairy since the Joe Cool charter boat was found without them. They are presumed dead in a strange nautical crime.

“It’s a hard day for all of us,” said Jonathan Branam, who was organizing the private memorial for the Sissy Baby boat charter company, the family business.

The Joe Cool was found Sept. 23, abandoned in the Florida Straits near Cuba. The two who chartered the boat – Kirby Archer, of Strawberry, Ark. and Guillermo Zarabozo, of Hialeah, Fla. – were later found floating on a raft.

Both are suspects in the death of the four, who were serving as crew.

Investigators have found four 9 mm shells on the boat.
