Trial date set for former LHS teacher

A Nov. 7 trial date was set Tuesday for a former Lawrence High School teacher charged with violating a condition of her bond.

This case is connected with another one in which the ex-teacher, Meredith Kane, 24, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

When she entered her plea in July, the Douglas County District Court judge in the case ordered Kane to have no contact with the victim – a boy who was 15 when the crimes occurred between August 2006 and March of this year. Kane was free on $15,000 bond.

On Aug. 27, Kane was arrested and her bond revoked after prosecutors alleged she had contact with the boy, a misdemeanor offense.

Kane appeared Tuesday before Douglas County District Judge Stephen Six, who set the November trial date.

At an earlier hearing, Six ordered Kane held in jail at least until Oct. 29, when she is scheduled for sentencing on the indecent liberties charge.
