Accident shuts part of turnpike interchange
A traffic accident involving a semitrailer Tuesday afternoon snarled traffic and closed the Kansas Turnpike interchange bridge at Bonner Springs.
Traffic on Kansas Highway 7 couldn’t enter the turnpike to travel east on Interstate 70, according to the Kansas Turnpike Authority. Also, eastbound traffic on I-70 couldn’t exit at K-7.
Repairs were expected to be made overnight so that K-7 traffic can enter the turnpike this morning and travel east to Kansas City on I-70, a KTA spokeswoman said.
Eastbound I-70 access to K-7 was expected to remain closed this morning until repairs can be made.
The KTA bridge at the Bonner Springs interchange was damaged at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday when it was struck by the semi owned by R.J. Corman Derailment Services. It was hauling a damaged rail car. There were no injuries.
