‘Plaid’ offers funky spectacle

Organized pandemonium.

That’s what you might call the 3-minute, 11-second edition of “The Ed Sullivan Show” that’s included in the musical “Plaid Tidings.”

The four men onstage play the roles of the Vienna Boys Choir, Rockettes, Alvin and the Chipmunks and Arabian horses, among other performers.

“It’s ridiculous is what it is,” says Jason Gibson, one of the four cast members. “There are people strapping things on and taking things off. … It’s insane and crazy, but it’s a lot of fun.”

It’s one of many highlights in the Christmas-themed sequel to “Forever Plaid.” The musical opens at 8 p.m. today at the Lawrence Community Theatre, 1501 N.H., and runs through Dec. 9.

The show includes golden oldies such as “A Stranger in Paradise” and “Sh’Bop,” as well as Christmas standards such as “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “Let It Snow.”
