Turkey reportedly fires against Kurdish rebels

? Turkish aircraft reportedly fired on villages inside Iraq’s northern border Tuesday, but there was no sign of a larger military operation that Turkey has threatened to unleash on Kurdish militants hiding inside Iraq.

The reported attacks came on the same day that four Turkish soldiers were killed by the rebels in the southeastern Turkish border district of Sirnak.

Turkish television reported that an old military base used by the rebel PKK had been bombed by Turkish F-16s.

Any airstrikes would be the first major action by the Turkish military against the PKK since Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with President Bush in Washington last week and vowed to go after the militants’ hideouts in northern Iraq.
