Nazi tactic

To the editor:

Several recent writers have attempted to justify the use of torture if an individual possessed vital information.

So what if the individual is innocent? Do you apologize?

For those who are not familiar with it, waterboarding is not simulated drowning. It is tying a person to a long plank and repeatedly dipping his head and chest under water, often to the point of unconsciousness. Nazi Germany perfected this technique, and it was used extensively by the Gestapo against captured Allied agents.

A study done by the Associated Press (Journal-World, Dec. 16, 2006) found that 205 of a total of 245 Guantanamo detainees (“… the most vicious, dangerous, best-trained killers on the face of the earth,” says the Pentagon) who were returned to their home countries for “further detention” were immediately released or cleared of all charges upon their arrival by those countries. These terrorist-loving countries included Britain, Germany, Spain, Russia, Australia and Denmark. Vicious killers indeed.

I don’t want my country associated with Nazi Germany.
