Letter to the editor: Chancellor’s Trump help ‘pathetic’

To the editor:

The buzz of election results has pushed to the back burner Chancellor Doug Girod’s actions to help craft a guidance letter for the Trump administration’s Department of Education. Nevertheless, Girod’s pathetic behavior requires a response. My friends at KU Med tell me that as a medical doctor, Girod is a fine physician and a decent man. He was also a competent administrator as the leader of KU Med. However, when Girod became university chancellor he proved to be a victim of the Peter Principle: He was promoted to a job just out of his range of competency.

Rather than leading by defending academic freedom and research, he helped Trump tighten his grip on university hiring, teaching and ideological correctness, thus joining the group of Kansas lickspittles that includes Roger Marshall, Tracey Mann, Jerry Moran, Derek Schmidt, Ron Estes and Ty Masterson.

The last thing Kansas needs is another prominent derriere smoocher for the current occupant of the White (Gold?) House.

Don Dorsey,
