Lohan returns to rehab

Los Angeles – Lindsay Lohan has checked into rehab. Again.

The move followed a weekend during which the wild-child actress crashed her Mercedes, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and was photographed slumped in the passenger seat of a friend’s car.

The 20-year-old “admitted herself to an intensive medical rehabilitation facility” on Monday, according to a statement released by her publicist, Leslie Sloane Zelnick.

This is Lohan’s second rehab stint this year. She said in January that she had checked into a rehabilitation center for substance abuse treatment.

Lohan was arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence after her car hopped a curb and hit a shrub on Sunset Boulevard. Her preliminary court date is scheduled for Aug. 24.

Lohan was back out on the town before the Memorial Day weekend was over. Photographers captured her slumped in the passenger seat of a friend’s car early Monday morning. The photos, posted online at X17online.com, show a sweatshirt-clad Lohan with her mouth open and her eyes shut, apparently asleep. Another photo shows her kneeling on the ground, her back to the camera, apparently before getting into the vehicle.

Lohan will turn 21 on July 2.

Spears’ sober reflections

Los Angeles – Britney Spears says she “hit rock bottom,” in a message posted on her Web site about the end of her marriage and her time in rehab.

“Recently, I was sent to a very humbling place called rehab. I truly hit rock bottom. Till this day I don’t think that it was alcohol or depression,” the 25-year-old pop star writes. “I was like a bad kid running around with ADD (attention deficit disorder).”

Spears completed a monthlong stay at a luxury Malibu rehabilitation treatment facility in March after a series of run-ins with the paparazzi that included a stop at a San Fernando Valley hair salon, where she was caught on video shearing her own locks. Other photos splashed across the Internet appeared to reveal Spears out partying wearing nothing underneath her short skirts.

She was seen going out with Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan after filing for divorce from aspiring rapper Kevin Federline last November, just two months after giving birth to their second child, Jayden James. The pair also have an older son, Sean Preston, now 20 months.

Explaining her recent behavior, she says: “I think it is actually normal for a young girl to go out after a huge divorce.”

She closes by saying: “We will never really understand or figure out life completely. That’s God’s job. I can’t wait to meet him … or her. Love, Britney.”

‘Pirates’ wins most booty

Los Angeles – “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” ruled the seven seas with a record $139.8 million domestically over the long Memorial Day weekend, lifting its worldwide total to $404 million.

The third “Pirates” film starring Johnny Depp as boozy buccaneer Jack Sparrow surpassed the four-day mark of $122.9 million for last year’s “X-Men: The Last Stand,” the previous record-holder for a Memorial Day weekend.

“At World’s End” raised its domestic gross to $153 million since debuting with Thursday night preview screenings. Overseas, the movie has added an additional $251 million since the sequel began rolling out on Wednesday.

The swashbuckling franchise failed to snatch back the three-day weekend record it lost to this month’s “Spider-Man 3,” whose $151.1 million debut eclipsed the $135.6 million mark for last summer’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.”

The weekend’s top 10 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC:

1. “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.”
