To the editor:

Thank you and congratulations to the City Commission for approving the domestic partner registry ordinance. It is so encouraging to see this decision in favor of civility and fairness in our community.

Now that the city has taken this positive step, I hope employers, insurers, health care providers and others will join in recognizing the partners and families included in the registry. We have the opportunity in Lawrence to be a truly welcoming and affirming community. This is good for everyone and it can inspire other cities to do the same.
