XM shock jocks apologize for crude comments

Washington - XM Satellite Radio shock jocks Opie and Anthony apologized Friday for airing a homeless man's crude comments that he'd like to have sex with Condoleezza Rice, Laura Bush and Queen Elizabeth.

The remarks were made on their show Wednesday by a guest the duo call Homeless Charlie. As the name of each woman came up, the guest said he would like to have sex with her - using language not fit for print.

Opie and Anthony laughed as they imagined Rice's "horror" while describing a violent sexual encounter in which Rice is punched in the face.

Washington-based XM condemned the remarks but would not say whether XM planned to take disciplinary action.

Opie and Anthony, whose full names are Anthony Cumia and Greg "Opie" Hughes, apologized to listeners on Friday's show.

Because the show airs on satellite radio, there are no federal restrictions on its content.

The same radio duo was dumped by CBS Radio in August 2002 for running a contest in which they said two listeners had sex in New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral. They were hired by XM in 2004.

Sheriff's official says Hilton's jail stay could be a short one

Los Angeles - Despite being sentenced for 45 days in county jail for violating her probation, socialite Paris Hilton is expected to spend three weeks - and perhaps less - behind bars, a Los Angeles County sheriff's official told the Los Angeles Times on Thursday.

Until now, officials have said they thought Hilton would serve the entire jail term ordered last week by Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer after Hilton repeatedly drove her car while her license was suspended because of a DUI plea.

Sheriff's department spokesman Steve Whitmore said Hilton's sentence could be cut nearly in half by state law allowing credit for time served for good behavior. In addition, he said, overcrowding in the jail system could further reduce the time she spends in custody.

Hilton says she will appeal Sauer's sentence, which she considers too harsh. Hilton's supporters also have asked California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to pardon her.

Movie ratings system now will include smoking

Washington - Movies and cigarettes have long gone together like Bogey and Bacall, but films will now get tougher ratings if their characters light up.

The Motion Picture Association of America announced this week that smoking will be considered when rating movies and "depictions that glamorize smoking or movies that feature pervasive smoking outside of an historic or other mitigating context may receive a higher rating."

Smoking will become a factor in decisions by the Classification and Rating Administration, along with violence, language, nudity, drug abuse and other elements.

But the MPAA resisted calls by some anti-smoking advocacy groups to give any film with smoking a mandatory "R" rating, meaning children under 17 would not be allowed to see it without a parent or guardian.

According to a review by the ratings board, the percentage of movies with "even a fleeting glimpse of smoking" dropped from 60 percent in July 2004 to 52 percent in July 2006, he said. Of the movies with smoking, three quarters received an R rating anyway for other adult themes.

Sheryl Crow adopts baby boy

Los Angeles - Happy Mother's Day to Sheryl Crow - the singer-guitarist has adopted a baby boy.

"I am so excited to share with you guys that I've adopted a little boy. He was born two weeks ago," Crow announced on her Web site Friday.

She told fans the boy's name "is Wyatt (after my dad) Steven (after my little brother and Scooter) and we are enjoying some very private family time."

This is the first child for Crow, 45, who underwent breast cancer surgery in February 2006.

That same month, she and cycling champion Lance Armstrong announced that they had broken up their engagement. It would have been her first marriage and the second for Armstrong. The pair met in October 2003 and began dating shortly after.
